Salaried Teacher Training

BCTSA SCITT usually offers some salaried teacher training places each year.

This means you’ll be paid a salary while you train to get qualified teacher status (QTS). You’ll need QTS to teach in many primary, secondary and special schools in England.

The salaried courses we offer vary in response to places on offer from our partner schools, so if you are interested in salaried routes, search Find and search for our current offers.

How does a salaried teacher training place differ from a training route place?

Salaried applicants are expected to show that they already have significant experience in schools, including at least 2 years experience teaching the UK National Curriculum.  You will also need to meet all the usual qualification requirements for entry to any teacher training course.

Salaried trainees are able to teach up to an 80% timetable from the start of the course.

You may teach these classes solo, or with the support of another teacher or staff member, as decided by the employing school.

The salaried training route is still a training route, and trainees are still expected to engage fully with the structured programme in order to develop the skills for QTS.

A salaried trainee teacher will:

  • have a weekly mentor meeting
  • have a formal observation once a week
  • complete weekly observe / practice / discuss / reflect tasks
  • have a progress review at the end of each Module
  • observe other teachers each week
  • complete a second placement
  • complete the 4 Intensive Training and Practice weeks

How does the finance work for salaried teacher training places?

You’ll receive an unqualified teacher’s salary. The exact amount will vary depending on the school you work in.
